Boat Shrink Wrapping
Biodegradable Shrink Wrap Long Island is well equipped to shrink wrap boats all over Long Island. Shrink wrapping boats is a great way to protect your boat from the elements over the winter. Our biodegradable shrink wrap from bioaqualife™ is stronger, thicker and shrinks more than traditional shrink wrap, leading to better protection for your boat over the winter. Once bioaqualife™ biodegradable shrink wrap is in a landfill environment, it will begin to break down. When bioaqualife™ shrink wrap is not in a landfill, it has the same shelf life as traditional shrink wrap.
We shrink wrap boats of all types and size; how we shrink wrap the boat depends on the type of boat, material of the hull, and how the customer would like their boat shrink wrapped. Some customers prefer that the shrink wrap comes just below the boat's rub rail, and others prefer to cover the sides of the boat and bring the shrink wrap down to the waterline. For painted hulls, we always bring the shrink wrap below the boat's waterline to avoid damage to the paint.

How Do We Shrink Wrap Boats?
The video above illustrates how we shrink wrap a small boat. First, we prepare the boat for shrink wrapping. If there are leaves inside of the boat, we'll use our electric blower to clear them out. We'll also put at least one moisture absorber inside of the boat before it is shrink wrapped to protect against mold and mildew. Then we'll run strapping over the boat from the bow to the stern to support the shrink wrap. If necessary, we'll add posts to the support the strapping and shrink wrap as well, but that was not necessary to shrink wrap the boat in the video. For customers who would like to access or work on their boat over the winter while it is shrink wrapped, we can add a frame so that there is space to work inside the shrink wrapped boat. We can also add a shrink wrap zipper door for easy access.
Next, we'll measure the length and width of the boat and cut a piece of shrink wrap to the appropriate size. Then we unfold the shrink wrap over the boat, make sure it is even on each side, then heat in the folds. Next, we'll heat strapping into the shrink wrap around the entire boat. Once all of the strapping has been heated into the shrink wrap, we add additional pieces of strapping that hold the shrink wrap down and prevent it from pulling up when it is heated.
Then it's time to heat! We'll systematically heat the shrink wrap so it is heated evenly. Then we'll add vents so the boat can breathe; these work in conjunction with the moisture absorbers to prevent mold and mildew. Finally, we'll use shrink wrap tape to cover any holes that formed while we were heating and reinforce the seams and any sharp corners. After that, your boat is shrink wrapped and ready for winter!
